Hunger Action Team

At Towson Presbyterian Church

The violence of poverty is both global and local. The Maryland Food Bank estimates that one in every nine Marylanders (including one in six kids) suffer from food insecurity.  Food insecurity causes more than just hunger pains.  It can lead to ongoing malnourishment, struggles in school due to an inability to concentrate, and social stigma.  At TPC, we know we can and must do something about it.

Sunday Community Lunch

Every Sunday, 12:00–1:00pm

Sunday Community Lunch (SCL) is TPC's weekly missional gathering that brings together church members and those who face food insecurity and/or homelessness in the surrounding community. Every single Sunday, people of all ages and socioeconomic status fellowship in Thompson Hall together over a shared meal. We invite ALL to come and join us for this cherished time of getting to know some incredible people (both in the kitchen and around the tables)!

SCL is in need of additional volunteers to round out our existing ten teams. Teams serve once every ten weeks on Sundays, 9:30am–1:00pm, preparing and serving meals, and eating in fellowship with guests. To get involved, sign up using the button below or contact Kimberly Light.

Harvest Meals for the Hungry

Since June 2020, TPC has partnered with Mt. Calvary AME to prepare 100+ meals for Meals for the Hungry. In addition to assisting families, individuals, and older adults in need, this initiative has fostered a strong relationship between our churches.

Please contact Kimberly Light for more information.

Assistance Center of Towson Churches

Assistance Center of Towson Churches (ACTC) is the result of a group of Towson-area churches coming together to provide emergency help for those in need in the community. The Center opened its doors in 1985 to provide emergency help, including food, eviction and utility cutoff prevention, payment for prescriptions, and lunches for the homeless.

In addition to offering financial support, TPC supports ACTC through monthly food donations and the Thanksgiving Food Bag Drive each November. Church members also regularly make individual donations of their time or services to ACTC.

Food donation boxes can be found in TPC's narthex (outside of the sanctuary) and in the Thompson Hall hallway.Â
