Earth Care Action Team

At Towson Presbyterian Church

The Earth Care Action Team strives to help Towson Presbyterian Church...

  • nurture souls through worship experiences both in our sanctuary and out in nature
  • teach children and adults about ways to treat the earth more gently
  • encourage lifestyles of consuming, conserving and sharing that promote a sustainable environment
  • support public efforts to better care for the environment that are fair and just to the vulnerable and the poor.

Upcoming Intergenerational Garden Workdays

Church members and neighbors of any age are invited to work and learn together in our Intergenerational Garden this spring. In the coming weeks, we'll create new raised beds, tend to the flower beds around the perimeter of the garden, add new soil, and plant seeds and crops to harvest later. In addition to these group workdays, you can sign up to tend to the garden on your own! We have time slots throughout the spring and summer for watering, weeding, etc. If you have any questions about the garden, group workdays, or time slots, contact Carol Appleby, Garden Director.

We proudly grow an Intergenerational Garden (IGG) on the church's yard across the side street from our building. There, both children and adults come together in the garden, not only learning how to garden, but also about the interdependence of our ecosystem, the importance of sustainable practices in agriculture, and the benefits of eating healthy foods grown locally. As we do, fellowship and community-building abound, and we grow in our understanding of what it means to be good stewards of the land. All the food grown and harvested in the garden is donated to the hungry via local food pantries.

Graphic. It has a white background, a thick green circle in the middle that says "Earth Care" at the top of the circle and "congregations" at the bottom. In the middle of the circle there is a picture of the earth with green and blue hands creating a second circle.

Certified by the Presbyterian Church (USA) every year since 2010, Towson Presbyterian Church is proud to be an Earth Care Congregation! We have repeatedly earned this designation for our "environmental stewardship achievements in worship, education, facilities, and outreach activities."

Did you know that in 2011, Towson Presbyterian Church entered into an agreement with Baltimore County and the State of Maryland to protect the 260 acres of BeeTree Preserve from development or perpetuity?

Turquoise circle that says "ONE WATER PARTNERSHIP" in it

Towson Presbyterian Church is in partnership with One Water Partnership, which is a growing network of faith communities in the Chesapeake Bay watershed coming together to care for local waterways in their own communities.
