Worship is at the core of who we are as a congregation. In worship, we acknowledge the God made known to us in Jesus Christ and present in the world and in our lives through the power of the Holy Spirit. As we respond to God’s claim and redemptive action in Jesus Christ, we are transformed and renewed. We welcome all who seek to worship with us.
Our services are modern traditional in style. A traditional order of service is followed, but modern elements including dramatic readings, biblical storytelling, liturgical dance, and visual art are frequently included to enrich the service and the worship experience. Music is primarily organ, piano, guitar, as well as vocal and bell choirs. Selections vary from classical to contemporary. During the 10:00 a.m. service, church school is offered for nursery through middle school (depending on age or preference, children either start the morning in their classrooms or if they start in the Sanctuary, stay for a children's message, then are dismissed to the classroom).
Everyone is part of the Music Ministry at Towson Presbyterian Church. This ministry is expressed in the relationships we have with each other and in our relationship to God. Our Music Ministry is felt when we gather in worship and we all sing as a unifying voice to praise God. With the Holy Spirit’s guidance, we will continue to be in ministry with each other and with God through our music. May we know that in our ministry, God hears our songs of prayer, praise and thanksgiving. At TPC, there are several musical opportunities in which youth and adults can participate in the liturgy of worship. These opportunities include participation in the Chancel Handbell Choir and the Chancel Choir. Musical participation can also include the presentation of solo instrumental music or attendance at a music reading class to improve your ability to sing hymns in worship. The Chancel Handbell Choir is meets Tuesdays from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. New Voices meets Thursdays from 6:45 p.m. to 7:20 p.m. The Chancel Choir rehearses Thursdays night from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Join anytime!
Liturgical Art is art in service to God and Church. Liturgical art is also an expression of faith in praise and gratitude to God. At TPC we rejoice in the creative nature of God and all God’s people by nurturing individual and participatory artistic expressions of faith. We celebrate aesthetics in worship and in community through a wide array of visual arts, storytelling, dramatic scripture readings, music, movement, poetry, creative prayer and spiritual practices. We seek to express in new ways artistic ministry that engages hands, hearts and minds with the traditions and seasons of the church community. The TPC Staff and Worship, Music and Arts Committee work together to create worship experiences that engage all ages more deeply in the mystery, awe, reverence and wonder of our Creator. As we celebrate each church season in art, song, prayer and praise, may we at Towson Presbyterian be transformed and renewed in spirit and faith.
